about

Toward the end of December of 2008 a few things occurred which preceded the making of the album “December”. The first is that, having to wait till the next day for my electronic paycheck to be added to my empty checking account, but still having roughly four dollars left to use on my credit card, I suddenly remembered that I had just enough to buy a six-pack of Hamm’s. It’s doubtful that this six-pack lasted till December 27th, when I recorded the album—undoubtedly, another six-pack was used. The second occurance was a blizzard in Portland, which left around a foot and a half of snow on the ground for maybe a week—the cover art is the street on which I was living at the time. Based on weather data, though, it’s likely that the snow had largely melted by the 27th.

This is the first album where I used a source-text as the basis for my lyrics, something I had done in the past with poetry. I don’t remember what the book was—something in the philosophical vein, I think. I’d gotten it at the library.

The album was eventually released on my own short-lived music website in Spring of 2010. It was re-released on Bandcamp on November 12, 2013.
